Gracey is one of the main names of my wifes lineage and she is very fortunate that family stories and memories take her back to the early 19th century, therefore the collection of facts on these pages is by no means comprehensive or complete.

The origin of the name is uncertain to me at this point in time. My wife tells me her ancestors said they were decended from French Hugenot stock and the name then changed from “Le Grace”, I have read of the French connection in other sources also. In Ireland the name certainly goes back to the mid 1700’s and was mainly seen in the Counties of Down and Armagh in the Downpatrick and Lurgan areas, not forgetting Belfast itself.

I look forward to corresponding with anyone regarding the Gracey families of Ireland in an effort to learn more a build a better picture of how the various families were connected so if you have any information of any type, please do get in touch
