I grasped the above after wasting a lot of time dismissing families and facts that I thought had no connection to my own, only to find myself having to return later in search of that very information. From then until now I have recorded all facts I have come across pertaining to the main names on this site. I view it like collecting pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, and without all the pieces I cannot hope to see the whole picture, Another word of advice to those new to genealogy, do not place to much emphasis on the spelling of names, for years my father professed “they are nothing to do with our family” based solely on the way the name was spelt. The truth of the matter is that in the days before great literacy, the spelling of the name on birth, marriage and death registrations was more than often how the registrar spelled it rather than the family. If you have any information regarding the spread of the Eagleson, Surgenor, Smiley or Gracey families from Ireland to there present homesteads, I would be very grateful to receive it. If nothing else, knowing that one person or family emigrated, eliminates one more person or family from my searches and reconciliation here in Ireland. Unfortunately due to spammers who trawl e-mail address’s from web pages, I have been forced to remove the link to my e-mail address but you will find it embedded in the graphic at the top of each page. |
