04 March 2009 - Well, that’s it, this site is now dead and will not be developed again on a genealogy theme. Ten years and 17,350 visitors later it has all come to an end.

The Birth, Marriage and Death lists are gone forever. The parish maps of County Antrim and the PRONI listings for each parish are also gone. It’s sad, but in ten years of the site not a single donation was received towards it’s the upkeep and although a small number of visitors were very active in sharing information, the flow of information was mostly one way and very time consuming. My thanks go out to those who worked with me over the years and continue to now.

I do hope the web site was useful to those who visited and that it helped progress their own family research. It was great corresponding with all those contacts through the years but I do need to focus on my own research now and also on reducing web hosting and development costs.

The good news is that www.vyger.co.uk is now live and entirely focused on the gaps I need to fill in our research. The site has a whole new look and has been designed for better search engine optimisation so I hopefully have a lot of new contacts to look forward to in the near future.

TREES

14 February 2009 - Unfortunately after 10 years the time has come to dismantle the Vyger Irish Genealogy site. This has been brought about due to rising costs and unfortunately the lack of any meaningful return or support from the 17298 visitors the site has attracted.

Anyone serious about genealogy research will know it is a times taking experience and comes with it’s own particular expenses. Completing that research and taking the time to format it and place it on the internet is with regret something I will no longer be able to do on a general level. In the future I need to channel that time and expense specifically into progressing my own family research and will not therefore be able to help with general enquiries.

However I do still welcome contact from those researchers believing they have a direct links with our ancestry and look forward to collaborating with them to strengthen our research.

I do plan to resurrect Vyger but in a much more specific format aimed directly at finding the lost links in our own families rather than trying to be a general resource for the Eggleton, Surgeoner, Smiley and Gracey surnames.

I would like to wish everyone well in the search for their lost ancestors and say that it has been a pleasure corresponding with and helping you throughout the years.

Happy hunting, Jackson
